A Taste of Mozart

Now I know why the Mirabell Palace is not open to the public - its now the Mayor’s offices - but of course!

Anyway, tonight we went to the concert in the Marble Hall of the palace.  It’s a small intimate concert hall holding about 150 people.  We couldn’t see the string quartet as the seating is all on one level, (even though we were in the 5th row) but we had plenty to look at with the ceiling about 8m high!  All carved marble, gold filigree and crystal chandeliers.

It was amazing to think that Mozart actually played in this very room over 200 years ago!

The marble staircase to reach the Marble Hall is original too - but I felt as if I should be sweeping down the stairs in a swirling crinoline dress!  The mind boggled at the thought of Alan in powdered wig, breaches and high heels!
