Arrive in Innsbruck in style

This is the big train journey - the one where we had 3 changes of trains with only 6 minutes to spare between each connection!  We thought we could overcome the stress by taking an earlier train from the start, adding 30 minutes to our schedule to play around with.  But no - it was not to be.  We had to stick to the itinerary provided when we purchased the cut-price advanced purchase deal.

Never mind - it was a bit stressful, but we made all the connections in the nick of time.  The up-side was, they were all first class tickets, so there was always enough room to park our cases, always seats to spare, room to move around and generally much quieter.  The final leg between Zurich and Innsbruck we were in reserved seats.  Plus, there was free wifi on board and we could order a meal delivered to our seats (ordered on line on the train).  Absolutely “brill” as they say!  And it was good food to-boot!

This is the only journey where we need to make multiple changes - so we breathed a sigh of relief then sat back, relaxed and revelled in the passing scenery.

On arrival at Innsbruck we found a taxi easily, he took us to the AirBnB address quickly and cheaply, and the host was waiting at the doorstep for us.  The small apartment is in a secure block literally 2 minutes from the Old City.  Modern, clean and exactly as pictured on the website.  Another sigh of relief!

It was five o’clock, so we quickly rushed out and found the nearest supermarket to get supplies in for breakfast.  Just as well we did, because the shops closed at 5.30 (Saturday) and reopen on Monday!  The gods are shining on us!

Next thing - dinner.  And literally just out the back of the apartment is a bit of an Eat Street.  Not only that, the bar on the corner of the block has set up a big screen on the street for customers to watch the soccer World Cup.  So the atmosphere was electric with excitement.

Not a bad backdrop - right next to the River Inn, and opposite the colourful houses, much photographed, on the opposite bank.

It was a beautiful balmy evening too.

Just fancy - all this at our doorstep!
