The Journey
Well, that was a memorable journey. We took off from Sydney in torrential rain at 9pm. When we arrived in Doha 14 hours later it was early morning and already 30 deg C (expecting a top of 45 deg C) - all we could see was almost a white sand landscape. Not that we went outside. We stayed in a massive business class lounge, that was almost deserted. It had what looked like a ballroom - certainly a large stage. There were restaurants, quiet rooms, children’s play room, shower rooms, smoking rooms, prayer rooms, family rooms and plenty to eat and drink.

Good start!
The business class plane seats made it a very comfortable trip with grabbing at least 7 hours sleep, though Alan a couple less than that. Anyway, after a good sleep, then a shower at Doha airport we were very refreshed for the last 7 hour leg to Zurich.
Our first encounter with the European train system worked well - we had to make 2 changes of trains, (Bern and Interlaken) with just 3-5 minutes in which to change platforms. Alan got a bit fraught when he had to heave 2 heavy suitcases down and up stairs when we couldn’t find a lift at Interlaken, but we didn’t miss a beat, never missed a connection and arrived just before 6pm in Lauterbrunnen.
Met Julie & Terry, walked down to the campsite to have dinner at their motor home, then walked back to the hotel in pouring rain!
But next morning we awoke to this
Good start!
