The sun is shining in Budapest

At last - clear skies!

Our transfer to a new city - and a new country - went as smooth as clockwork.  We’re getting the hang of the trains - but getting a taxi can be a challenge.    In Lauterbrunnen there were no taxis - we just had to walk to the station the village is so small;  in Innsbruck there was a taxi rank just around the corner from our apartment; we were in a hotel in Salzburg, so reception ordered a taxi for us - but in Vienna: there were no taxi ranks nearby, no reception to help us, and we couldn’t pronounce the address of our apartment so ordering on the phone is fraught with difficulties.  Anyway, after much research I found an app for my phone: MyTaxi which is used over much of Europe.  So I could order a taxi with the App - I even paid for it on the app!  My only worry was: does it work? Will it turn up on time?  What happens if it doesnt?  What then - will we miss our train?

But it worked!  Half an hour before due time I got a message to say it was on the way.  The taxi turned up 5 minutes early.  Didn’t even need cash: it was all done (including the tip) with my phone!  Brilliant!

Then the train began in Vienna so was sitting waiting in the station for us AND Budapest was the end of the line too, so there was no mad rush manhandling the suitcases.  And thats not all: a clever cab driver (or crafty, I dont know which) helped Alan off the train with the cases and took us straight to his taxi.  No worries, no hassles!  Phew!

And to top it all - we arrived hungry, in need of sustenance- a late lunch.  And guess what? There’s an Irish Pub opposite the apartment block!  how easy is that?!

Our apartment is in an historic block right in the centre of the city - and in the centre of our bedroom is a crystal bath!

Interesting! - but then we found on our first walk around, that this is an interesting city: even a bit quirky maybe.  We shall see.
