Berlin

As soon as we drew into Berlin Railway station, we knew we had left Eastern Europe behind.  This place is clean, modern, orderly, bright and colourful.  What a station!  It has over 300 shops - its more like an international airport!

The contrast with Prague and Budapest continued to surprise us the next day on our Walking Tour of the main attractions.

This is a walking/cycling city.

Check Point Charlie, the Berlin Wall and the Brandenburg Gate are the main draw cards of course - and heavily commercialised of course.

And this is the Hotel where Michael Jackson famously dangled his baby from a balcony!  This is in front of the Brandenburg Gate.

Today’s pictures of the famous gate has been spoiled by the giant TV screen set up behind it: to televise the World Cup Final this afternoon!

More sore feet today: but these walking tours are great for a potted history and introduction to a city.
