Charles Bridge & French food
Weather forecast didn’t look very favourable this morning - it started grey but improved as the day progressed. Today we had to cross another tourist “must do” off the list: walk over Charles Bridge. Because it had rained yesturday, everyone rushed onto the Bridge today - it was shoulder to shoulder!

Okay - got that one out of the way. Now for Lennons Wall (John Lennon that is). Bit of a disappointment - not the piece of street art we were expecting - more graffiti than anything. I guess, if people still have the freedom to add their own little piece, then it remains a symbol of freedom and hope.

Still - we’ve got that out of the way - now, just around the corner the annual French Market started today: French foods and wine to sample: where are we? Paris or Prague?

Showers threatening so we needed to get inside: coffee and pastries called for. Out came Mandy’s trusty phone, to guide us to Cafe Savoy, recently restored to its former glory prior to the communist era. The ceiling had been covered over during that time, thereby preserved to be enjoyed now.

Pity about the crowds.

The pastry kitchen can be viewed by all.

Back home for a siesta, though Mandy still had energy, so off she went to do a bit of shopping and to suss out a restaurant for tonight. We wanted to stay local so we could return to the apartment easily to watch the England vs Croatia semi final of the World Cup. Whenever we have left the apartment up to now, we have always headed in the one direction - towards the tourist attractions. But just around the corner Mandy found that our neighbourhood is really pleasant, quiet, and scattered with cafes and restaurants serving this apartment area.

Typical hearty Czech fare - Goulash, pork knuckle, duck and dumplings. Stick to the rib - stuff.

But we are back home in time for kick-off.
