The Borders: city and country
After a lot of driving yesterday we thought it a good idea to take it a bit quieter: a train ride though the Borders countryside from Galashiels to Edinburgh.

Well - Edinburgh was as beautiful as ever, but absolutely packed with crowds - Xmas is nothing compared to the Festival crowds - only to glad to get back on the train to the peace and quiet of the countryside.

Helen had read about Dawyck Botanical Garden (pronounced Doyk). Took a bit of finding - at Peebles it said, but was more like 5 miles outside of the town along narrow country lanes. Well worth the effort though. An in fact we later found out that Peebles is incredibly picturesque itself - along with the Gardens we could have spent 2 days here - not the 2 hours we had left in the day!!!
